Thesis title: "Chronic pain a disease, which is not well understood on the molecular level"

Thesis Outline: My research focuses on signalling networks involved in chronic pain.
Chronic pain is a maladaptive pathology with a very high prevalence in today’s society. Sadly, current treatments are often ineffective and cause severe side effects. A main focus of my dissertation project lies in the identification and functional characterization of novel protein candidates that are specifically involved in chronic pain. We aim to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the chronification of pain and will particularly consider the impact of age. Obtained results will enhance our understanding of the molecular basis of chronic pain and may open new avenues for tailored therapeutic options with minimized side effects.
