- Period of stay: 24-27 March 2026
Report
I had the opportunity to attend the Frontiers in Medicinal Chemistry 2026 conference, which took place from 24-27 March 2026 in Münster, Germany. My participation was made possible through a travel grant provided by the Vienna Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences (VDS PhaNuSpo), for which I am very grateful.
During the conference, I presented my research in the form of a poster. This provided the opportunity to discuss my work with other researchers and receive feedback. The poster session allowed for direct scientific exchange, where I explained my experimental setup and discussed certain challenges related to my project.
I was also able to meet researchers from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy, which helped me to broaden my professional network. In particular, I spoke with PhD students working on drug metabolism, similar to my research focus. These discussions were especially useful, as we shared experiences regarding experimental setups and common difficulties, including challenges in metabolite detection. It was helpful to see that others are facing comparable issues, and to exchange practical approaches.
In addition to the poster session, I attended several lectures covering recent developments in medicinal chemistry. The programme included topics such as new drug modalities, computational approaches, and high-throughput methods. I also attended presentations that provided insight into current developments in the pharmaceutical industry. Contributions from industry, particularly from Sanofi, offered a perspective on how drug discovery processes are implemented outside academia.
Finally, I had the chance to explore the city of Münster during my stay. The city impressed me with its vibrant and youthful atmosphere, strongly influenced by its large student population. Münster is also well known for its extensive use of bicycles, which contributes to a very lively and environmentally friendly urban environment.
Overall, attending the Frontiers in Medicinal Chemistry 2026 conference was a valuable experience. It allowed me to present my research, exchange ideas with other researchers, and gain insight into current developments in the field.
