Thesis title: "Mycochemical and phytopathological investigations in the search for biopesticides against Ramularia mali"
Thesis outline: Nature provides an almost unlimited supply of bioactive molecules, also known as natural products (NPs), which represent secondary metabolites produced by all living organisms, including animals, plants and microorganisms. Throughout human history, these NPs have played a leading role in the discovery of new lead structures and final drugs. The uses of NPs are not limited to medicine; they are also found in agriculture industry. In agriculture, especially in plant disease management, so called biocontrol agents are often used to control phytopathogens, by utilizing their chemical machinery for the synthesis of secondary metabolites. This principle will be used to discover new biopesticides against emerging (phyto)pathogens.
