First Call for PhD students

Directly collaborating with experts from another country and laboratory and even working under their supervision in their infrastructure can be very fruitful for your personal and PhD project development. You get the chance to master working outside your comfort zone and will benefit from new input, perspectives, valuable technologies as well as an extended professional network.

Guidelines for application

  • This call is open to all VDS PhaNuSpo students, and who signed the Code of Good Practice for Doctoral Schools.
  • Applications will be evaluated and ranked by an expert jury of PhaNuSpo PIs.
  • The next application deadline will be 15.10.2021.
  • Your intended stay in an international laboratory will clearly be an added value to the progress and outcome of your doctoral thesis and should optimally take place by October 2022.
  • The planned work should be accomplishable within 1-3 months.
  • We supply financial support (max 3.000 Euro/awardee) for travel and accommodation costs (economy / low budget !) and only exceptionally for justified bench fees (of up to 500,00 EUR/month).
  • Salary, insurances or conference attendances are not funded under this scheme.

 We intend to fund as many high-scored proposals as possible within the limits of the allocated budget (in this call approx. 15.000 Euro).

Required application documents

1.) Proposal, max. 4 page and including

  • Your name, title and start of your PhD project, your supervisor(s), your chosen host lab and planned period of your stay
  • Synopsis of your PhD project/results
  • Information on hosting lab: Provide evidence for the quality of the hosting lab/PI, show why the hosting lab is the best for your stay
  • Plan of how you want to accomplish what during your planned stay
  • Explanation of how you will benefit from the intended stay
  • Detailed work and budget plan

2.) CV including list of publications, conference presentations, etc. since start of your PhD

3.) Approval letter(s) of your supervisor(s) (including a statement that potential extra costs, exceeding the maximal grant of 3.000 Euro, can be covered) and your prospective host (including a justification of bench fees if these are applied for).
