Report
In March this year, we, Maria Lummerstorfer and Tanja Pfleger, attended the 5th European Conference on Pharmaceutics in Porto, Portugal. The two-day event was held at the “Alfandega do Porto” conference centre and was organised by three different international societies namely S.I.T.E.L.F (Italian Society of Pharmaceutical Technology and Legislation), APGI (International Society for Drug Delivery Sciences and Technology) and APV (International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology and Industrial Pharmacy). This conference serves as a significant annual platform covering a wide range of topics and techniques in the field of pharmaceutical technology.
We had the honour of presenting our latest findings as posters in two poster sessions, which promoted our PhD studies. Tanja presented results from her recently published paper on ginseng-based dermal formulations and their biological effects in vitro. Maria gave an overview of her screening platform for prime editor ribonucleoprotein nanoformulations. For both of us, the conference was a great opportunity to network with other doctoral students and PIs from the same field of research and to discuss our results and possible collaborations with them. Their valuable feedback encouraged us to expand our experimental approaches.
One of the outstanding aspects of the congress was the diverse range of scientific sessions covering new approaches for drug delivery. We were particularly interested in the invited talks and short talks about special administration routes or formulations such as nanoparticles.
Overall, the 5th European Conference of Pharmaceutics in Porto was a valuable experience offering insights into research areas of different universities, interaction opportunities during coffee breaks and the amazing welcome reception and advanced technological approaches for drug delivery that will contribute to our PhD projects. In addition, we were able to visit the lovely city of Porto by a FreeWalking Tour, where we learned about the history of Portugal.
We appreciate the generous financial support provided by the VDS-PhaNuSpo, which made it possible for us to attend this great conference.
