Report

The XXV World Congress of the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) 2024 was an unparalleled experience held in Galway, Ireland from 23 June to 28 June. This six-day conference featured several highlights, including the opportunity to present the initial findings of my research in Home Economics Education.

I gave a 15-minute presentation on the preliminary results of my interview study, which was met with valuable feedback, tips, and advice that will significantly help me to progress  my work. This was my first presentation in English on an international stage, and it was a resounding success. It enhanced my communication skills and confidence.

Networking was a primary focus and an essential component of the congress for me. I connected with home economics experts, both young and experienced, from all over the world. Furthermore, I participated in a number of presentations and keynote sessions that introduced a range of innovative ideas for my field and teaching practice. The interaction with fellow young researchers was crucial as it strengthened the professional network we had initially developed online.

I am grateful to my supervisors, Claudia Angele, Karl-Heinz Wagner and Katharina Groß for their support during the preparation phase. I also thank the VDS PhaNuSpo for the Travel Grant that made this invaluable experience possible.

The congress was a pivotal event for my professional growth. It offered an exceptional platform for knowledge exchange and networking within the international Home Economics community.
