Report

I am very thankful for the opportunity and the privilege to attend the European College of Sport Science Conference (ECSS) 2023 in Paris. Spanning from the 5th to the 7th of July 2023, the conference was an intense, enriching assembly of scientific minds, with approximately 800 engaging oral presentations and a whopping 1046 insightful poster presentations from researchers around the world.

It was my first opportunity to present at an international conference. My initial intention was to give a ten-minute oral presentation. However, a change of plans resulted in presenting a poster instead, condensing my talk to three minutes, followed by a one-minute discussion. Despite this pivot, I enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to share my work, entitled 'Hormonal and Immunological Response to a Combined Biopsychosocial Stressor and Resistance Exercise - A Pilot Experiment', during the physiology poster session on the final day.

Besides the experience I gained from presenting in front of a larger audience of experts for me, the conference was also an opportunity to get in touch with researchers from other labs working in similar areas. In addition, listening to presentations and evaluating other people’s work might be an exercise to strengthen one's own methodological understanding and critical thinking skills. It is not the information you get, but the question you ask that can help to become a better researcher.

I highly enjoyed my participation in the conference and it is an important learning area for aspiring researchers.
