PhD student Anne Weber (Sport Science) attended the 27th International Congress of the European Committee for Sports History (CESH), which took place in Paris from 4 to 6 June 2024.

The 27th International Congress of the European Committee for Sports History (CESH) took place in Paris from 4-6 June 2024. In line with the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, the theme of the Congress was “Making World(s) Sport Globalization & Olympism”. Around 90 presentations from a wide range of different subject areas contributed to an exciting and varied congress.

I not only had the opportunity to present my dissertation project with a focus on my methodological approach to visual history, but also to moderate another session. I was also able to make valuable contacts who, after a short time, gave me some tips for further literature research and content-related input. There were also other presentations dealing with images, gender stereotypes and sport, which provided interesting reference points for my work. It was also particularly exciting to get to know other areas of research. Lectures ranging from digitalisation and the environmental aspect of the globalisation of sport to the construction of national and political identities through sport and the Olympics showed me once again how diverse the field of sport history is.

Looking back, I can only take away positive experiences from my first congress: Nice people, exciting and diverse research projects and, of course, a wonderful city.
