Onboarding Workshop

Each semester, we warmly welcome and invite our new PhD candidates who have started their PhD journey in the past six months. This event is designed to provide valuable guidance on the doctoral programmes in Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences, and Sports Science, and to support the transition into independent early-career researchers.

Beyond that, it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow researchers, share experiences, and gain insights that will help you to embark on your PhD with confidence and clarity.

  • Date: Thursday, 13 March 2025.
  • Time and location:
    • 09:00-13:00: Interactive session in Richard Wasicky Seminar Room (Room No. 2D404).
    • 13:00-15:00: Networking reception in Berger Zimmer (Room No. 2D402).
    • Where? At the Pharmaziezentrum (UZA 2) of the University of Vienna, Josef-Holaubek-Platz 2, 1090 Vienna.
  • Registration:
    • Interactive session: Invited PhD candidates only, no registration needed.
    • Networking session: Registration required via the form below, for VDS-PhaNuSpo members.

What to expect

A) The interactive session
Only for PhD candidates who started since Oct 2024.

  • Meet your fellow doctoral candidates.
  • The Doctoral Programme structure and key milestones.
  • Benefits and opportunities offered by the VDS-PhaNuSpo.
  • Practical strategies for transitioning from a master's student to an early-career researcher.

Isolde Prommer, the VDS-PhaNuSpo manager, will guide you through the doctoral programme and the doc school activities and benefits.

Markus Böckle, an experienced coach, psychotherapist and researcher in life sciences, will facilitate group work on key challenges in this career phase, such as expectation management, research independence and navigating opportunities and challenges.

B) Networking Reception, 13:00-15:00

  • The reception is open for all PhaNuSpo members - a perfect chance to expand your network and connect also with experienced PhD researchers and PIs beyond your working group.

Information events of other units

In addition, the Centre for Doctoral Studies offers information sessions providing an overview of doctoral studies at the University of Vienna as well as topic specific sessions on admission in a nutshell, funding opportunities and entry and residence permits. Registration is not required.
