Annual report & TAC minutes

Doctoral candidates have to submit the annual progress report every year after approval of the doctoral thesis agreement.

These reports constitute attachments (annexes) to the doctoral thesis agreement. They must be evaluated by the supervisor(s) and signed by the student and the supervisor(s) before emailed to the PhaNuSpo office or to the SSC Life Science (details below).

The annual report and the annual TAC meetings serve the following main purposes.

a) Annual progress report

  • Assess the progress made during each year of doctoral studies. It helps both, the doctoral candidates and their supervisors to keep track of the doctoral research project and to avoid pitfalls (e.g. unrealistic timetable, alse expectations, etc.).
  • To report on any changes that have become necessary or even desirable that could not have been foreseen when the doctoral thesis agreement was signed. For example, the originally planned data collection may become impossible because study participants have withdrawn or access to databases has been denied; or new unexpected opportunities have arisen, such as new conferences.
  • After the submission to the PhaNuSpo office (Pha & Nu) or to the SSC Sport Science, the study programme director will approve the report or may request further information for approval.

b) Annual TAC meeting & TAC minutes

Annual TAC meetings are mandatory for PhD students admitted from 2023S onwards, and are recommended for all of our PhD students.

  • We strongly recommend that TAC meetings are held when the annual report is due and that both documents are submitted to the PhaNuSpo office at the same time. However, TAC meetings can be held more frequently if required.
  • The annual report form (DZ/V02) can be completed by the doctoral candidate before the TAC meeting and serve as a summary and discussion basis for the TAC members.
  • Further information on the TAC and the TAC minutes template can be found here.

c) When do I have to submit the annual report?

  • The first annual report is due one year after the approval of the doctoral thesis agreement.
  • Example: The approval date is in February 2022, i.e. that the 1st annual report is due in February 2023 for the period Feb 2022 - Feb 2023, the 2nd report is due in February 2024, and so on.

d) To whom do I have to send these reports?
