Once the dissertation topic has been approved after the public presentation (FÖP), a dissertation agreement must be signed and approved within one month. The doctoral candidate will prepare the dissertation agreement in collaboration with at least the supervisor. Ideally, however, the doctoral student will have already had the first meeting with his/her TAC team and discussed all the topics that will form the dissertation agreement.

The doctoral thesis agreement consists of

  • Rights and obligations of all participants, extent of supervision and frequency of feedback meetings, including TAC meetings, expectations between supervisor and doctoral student, etc.
  • Detailed description of the dissertation project, time schedule and specification of financial aspects (approved FÖP Expose).
  • Details of required training in the field of research, career development, transferable skills, conference attendance, etc. The following credits must be achieved by doctoral students in
    • Doctoral programmes in Nutritional Sciences and Pharmacy: 20 ECTS
    • PhD programme in Sport Science: between 18-30 ECTS (courses with or without continuous assessment) + 4 ECTS (additional achievements such as conference presentations, co-mentoring master thesis, Annual Retreat).
  • Planned peer-reviewed publications that are part of a cumulative thesis (areement on minimum requirements and upper limits, see also Doctoral School guidelines).
  • Commitment to the rules and regulations of scientific conduct.
  • Other requirements to be fulfilled.

Notes

  • Trainings: VDS PhaNuSpo doctoral candidates are expected to participate at least once in the lecture series "Meet the Expert" (SE 580002, 1 ECTS), the Annual Retreat (between 1-3 ECTS), Responsible Conduct of Research (1 ECTS), and the VDS PhaNuSpo offers further workshops in scientific writing and visualisation of science, or  ECTS for co-mentoring master students. In addition, the website of the Center for Doctoral Studies collects its own training offers as well those of the Talent Acquisition and Development Unit, the Vienna University Computer Centre, the Centre for Teaching and Learning or other from the course directory of the University of Vienna or other universities, ISTA, Circle U., LBG Career Center, etc.
  • Globally funded predoctoral university assistants have teaching obligations from the second year of the employment contract, third-party funded PhD students may teach (i.e. additional lecturer contract, must be aware that this teaching will be counted towards the postdoc years). To this end, the ICTL offers 'Basic Qualification for Junior Staff' courses, also specifically for STEM disciplines, also in German.
  • With the PhaNuSpo Travel & Mobility Grants, the doc school supports íts doctoral candidates to present their research internationally, to participate in international doctoral summer/winter schools, to learn new techniques, to enhance their scientific reputation, to improve their career development plans and to support their networking activities.

Submit the thesis agreement to
