Thesis title: "Investigating effects of nutrition and lifestyle on non-communicable diseases in large prospective cohort studies."

Thesis outline: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of dietary and lifestyle factors on three non-communicable diseases: Cancer, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Both the individual outcomes as well as multimorbidity, defined as the co-occurrence of two or more of these diseases, will be considered. The first two projects will focus on the effects of ultra-processed foods, which have recently emerged as important dietary contributors to these outcomes. The final project will make use of the Essential 8 index by the American Heart Association to investigate associations between lifestyle factors and multimorbidity. The projects will use data from the EPIC study and the UK Biobank, which together have recruited over 1 million participants over the past 30 years.
