Thesis title: "Drug therapy- and patient safety in ileostomy patients: clinical- pharmaceutical measures"

Thesis outline: There is very little data and no systematic studies on drug absorption in stoma patients. Absorption problems often remain undetected or untreated or are not adequately treated. Initial studies on this topic and our own experience show that there are indeed critical drug therapies that can be optimized through the influence of pharmacists. This is particularly true in the presence of an ileostomy, as absorption disorders occur more frequently here than in colostomy patients.  Despite this, pharmacists are rarely involved in the medical care of ostomy patients. This may be due to a lack of awareness of this topic, insufficient data and the large amount of time required for the clinical pharmaceutical care of this patient group. In addition, the infrastructure for interprofessional collaboration in this area may be lacking and some pharmacists do not consider themselves to be sufficiently informed or trained to deal with the challenges of drug therapy under special pharmacokinetic conditions.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how clinical pharmacists can contribute to improving the drug therapy- and patient safety of ostomy patients, especially ileostomy patients, and how clinical pharmaceutical care can be integrated into everyday clinical practice.
