Research
The research unit “Social and Contemporary History of Sport” is concerned with a broad thematic and methodological approach closely related to British and US-American sports studies.
We investigate social development and transformation processes of sport and movement cultures of the 19th and 20th centuries. In doing so, we follow theory-based approaches covering contemporary, culture, social and corporal history of sports. Current topics are (without claiming to be exhaustive) sport and power structures, sport and gender, sport and economy, enhancement cultures, sport and globalization, History of the body, history of sports science, biographies, sports history of Austria, sport and globalization processes.
